From Godzilla to Ghosts: A November of Big-Screen Surprises

The nights are getting darker, but the screen is lighting up! November brings everything from Hollywood stars and monstrous encounters to political intrigue, unusual romances and a special weekend of Inverness Film Festival screenings.
First off, things take a dark turn in Verity, the chilling adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling thriller, starring Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson. Tom Cruise leads Digger, a darkly comic tale of a powerful man desperately trying to save the world from a catastrophe of his own making. Meanwhile, Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning revisits the Facebook scandal through the story of whistleblower Frances Haugen, while Robert Pattinson stars in Primetime, a provocative thriller inspired by the real-life television phenomenon To Catch a Predator.
There’s plenty of otherworldly entertainment this month! South Korean sci-fi spectacle Hope follows a small village thrown into chaos by a mysterious creature, while Godzilla Minus Zero sees the legendary monster return to wreak havoc once again. For something gentler, Klara and the Sun, directed by Taika Waititi, explores love and friendship through the eyes of an artificial companion. And there’s a welcome return to Button House as the beloved BBC comedy gets the big-screen treatment in Ghosts: The Possession of Button House.
We’re delighted to be part of this year’s Inverness Film Festival, bringing three fantastic films to Cromarty over the opening weekend, 13–15 November. Rose, starring Sandra Hüller, is a striking historical drama exploring identity and suspicion in 17th-century Germany. Acclaimed director Andrey Zvyagintsev returns with Minotaur, a gripping story of personal and social breakdown, while Calle Málaga, starring Carmen Maura, offers a moving and life-affirming tale of a woman determined to hold on to her home in Tangier. Three very different films and a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some festival cinema closer to home.
Our documentaries tackle some challenging subjects. Naza is a powerful investigation into the Israeli military’s operations in Gaza, featuring testimony from those involved. Closer to home, Jeanie Finlay’s All Rivers Spill Their Stories to the Sea follows a Teesside fisherman turned unlikely activist after a devastating mass die-off of crabs and lobsters threatens his community and livelihood.
There’s romance and plenty of wit in a fresh adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones. History takes centre stage in Fatherland, which follows writer Thomas Mann and his daughter Erika on a journey through post war Germany. For something wonderfully peculiar, Wicker stars Olivia Colman as a lonely fisherwoman who commissions herself a husband made entirely from wicker! And
finally, French comedy Comédie-Française takes us backstage at a prestigious theatre, where everything that can go wrong before opening night does. The show must go on!
