Showings

In the remote South Korean village of Hope Harbor, police chief Bum-seok and officer Sung-ae are called to investigate a mysterious creature wreaking havoc on the community. But all is not as it seems, and perceptions can be misleading. What begins as ignorance plants the seed of disaster, escalating through human conflict into a tragedy of cosmic proportions.

Hope is the kind of movie that encourages talking around, in part that’s because it’s surprising, strange, and entertaining enough to make spoiler avoidance unusually worthwhile. That’s also not the whole story.

★★★★

Do yourself a favour and surrender to this entertaining, unwieldy and goofy spectacle. Much like its monster, it runs amok. Bring on Part 2!

★★★★

There is nary a moment of boredom and its numerous peaks of exhilarating action are often undercut by a laugh-out-loud payoff. Brilliantly crafted and beautifully shot, we can only hope this wild film gets the follow up it so richly deserves.

★★★★

There is some top-quality entertainment value on offer here from a movie which can only intensify the world’s K-obsession.
