Cromarty’s 35-Seat Wonder: Small Cinema, Big Dreams, World-Class Fame

It’s official – Time Out Magazine has named Cromarty Community Cinema in its illustrious ‘100 Best Cinemas in the World’ list. Your very own cinema has officially been crowned one of the globe’s cinematic gems.
We’re still reeling, one minute we’re just minding our own business, serving up cinematic delights in our bespoke 35-seater haven on the tip of the Black Isle, the next we’re rubbing metaphorical shoulders with grand Parisian film temples and LA dream palaces.
The cinema is a testament to the magic that happens when a local film society decides to dream big, or at least, dream shipping-container-sized. We’ve only been open since 2020, and already we’re making waves across the world with cinemas that have been around for a hundred years. And we’re in the good company of our fellow Scottish cinemas, Cameo Picturehouse in Edinburgh and Glasgow Film Theatre.
Phil de Semlyn, Time Out’s global film editor, hit the nail on the head when he said cinemas are “the places we go to dream, focal points of our communities, and an all-round great escape.” Where better to dream than a stylish, comfortable cinema perched at the edge of the North Sea?
So, to all our loyal customers, our supportive stars, and those who stumbled upon us while on holiday, a huge thank you! This honour is as much yours as it is ours. We are proof all you need to create a world class cinema, is a great idea, a passionate community, and a very well-placed shipping container.
Visit us and experience world-class cinema, right here in Cromarty. We’ve got the films, the snacks, and now the international bragging rights.
