Special May events at Cromarty Cinema

Good news! We have two fabulous special events to add to our Cromarty Cinema May schedule. On Tuesday the 27 th , you have the rare chance to see Emma Davie’s presumed-lost documentary Flight, a road movie exploring Scottish folk traditions from Cape Breton to Nova Scotia. Part of the Folk Film Gathering festival, it’s an important document of Scottish diaspora, exploring how Scottish traditions continue to be expressed in Canada, long after families have left Scotland. It will be a ‘pay what you can’ event, with suggested amounts of £3/5/7/9.
And on Saturday the 31st , join us for an extra special epic double feature screening of the final two episodes of Doctor Who season 2 – Doctor Who Finale Event; Wish World and the Reality War, with Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor, Varada Sethu as Belinda Chandra, and Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness the Doctor’s latest adventures with fellow fans in our comfy community cinema.
We also have all our usual programming for May! The Friend follows writer Iris (Naomi Watts) as she inherits a Great Dane after her friend’s (Bill Murray) passing. The bond between woman and dog offers solace and unexpected revelations. And Holy Cow? This heartwarming French drama follows a young man who enters a prestigious comté cheese-making competition, despite having no prior experience.
For the documentary buffs, prepare to be transported. Ocean with David Attenborough is, as you’d expect, pure visual splendour, with the beloved broadcaster guiding us through the deep blue’s most breathtaking wonders. Our first screening sold out so quickly we’ve added a second matinee performance. Follow the inspiring true story of Scot Ethan Walker in Make it to Munich, where against the odds, he fights to cycle from Scotland to Germany to attend Euro 2024.
History and art lovers, you’re also in for a treat: Exhibition on Screen – Michelangelo: Love and Death is a masterful dive into the genius of one of the
greatest artists of all time, from his sculptures to his struggles. On the music front, One to One: John & Yoko offers an intimate look at Lennon and Ono’s life in early ’70s New York, culminating in Lennon’s only full-length post-Beatles concert. And
RSNO: Holst’s The Planets + Live Solo Performance will let you experience Gustav Holst’s orchestral suite ‘The Planets’ performed by the Royal Scottish
National Orchestra, complemented by a live solo performance at the cinema. A celestial musical event that promises to enchant audiences, it’s truly a one-of-a-kind event.
Looking for something bold and boundary-pushing? Freaky Tales is a wild, genre-smashing ride through Oakland’s mythic streets in the ‘80s—part superhero flick, part social fable, all adrenaline. La Cocina serves up simmering social drama behind the scenes of a New York kitchen as it delves into the lives of immigrant workers chasing the American dream.
For families, it’s finally time: A Minecraft Movie drops us into pixelated peril in the most anticipated gaming film in years—kids and big kids alike, get your creeper
