June Jollies: From Alienation to Drag-tastic Road Trips at Cromarty Cinema

June at Cromarty Cinema brings with it a whirlwind of international cinema,
documentaries, action, laughs and a certain lasagne-loving feline…
We kick the month off with The Beast – a time-hopping sci-fi epic set in France with a bold and innovative take on alienation and female oppression. Based on a true story, Kidnapped sensitively recounts the infamous papal kidnapping of a young boy in the 1800s. Sorcery is a dark, enthralling coming-of-age Chilean tale of witchcraft, colonialism and self-discovery, while A House in Jerusalem is a Palestinian- directed supernatural drama about a girl and her father relocating from the UK to Jerusalem.
Looking for something with a slightly slower pace? You’re in luck, as we also bring you Lithuanian drama Slow, about new relationships with truly moving lead performances.
In the mood for a documentary? Exhibition on Screen is back, this time with a focus
on My National Gallery, London. Part of the UK Green Festival, Deep Rising is full
of awe-inspiring footage revealing the vital and fragile ecosystems of our oceans,
while Wilding follows a West Sussex couple in their quest to breathe new life into
their rural estate. In Made in England: The Films of Powell and Pressburger,
Martin Scorsese examines the iconic duo’s films.
And for something completely different… Join Wesley Snipes and Patrick Swayze on
a drag-tastic road trip in 1995 classic To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie
Newmar, or, ahead of another Monday, spend some time on Sunday with a certain
famous cat in new animation The Garfield Movie.
