A FREE film screening of HARRIET (2019) directed by Kasi Lemmons will be introduced by cinema volunteer/independent curator Susan Christie. This is one of a series of films which is being toured by the Black Artists Collective/Reel Roots with support from Film Hub Scotland. The films in the programme have all been specially selected because of ‘Black History Month’s origins in America, traversing key moments in the abolitionist and civil rights movements to portrayals of quotidian life today.’
HARRIET (2019) follows the life of Harriet Tubman who was an American abolitionist and social activist. Born into slavery, Tubman escaped and over the course of 13 missions, rescued 70 enslaved people including family and friends.
It has a central performance that carries the drama shoulder-high. It’s gripping, and there’s a mystical element to it…
