3pm screening of 1941 Howard Hawks’ screwball comedy Ball of Fire which will be introduced by writer, Maria Fusco.

“I watched the film on television when I was a wee kid and was delighted by the idea of a slang dictionary compiled by Professor Bertram Potts (Gary Cooper) with the invaluable assistance of whip-smart singer, and gangster’s moll, Sugarpuss O’Shea (Barbara Stanwyck). She runs rings around Potts and his seven academic colleagues, who would put you in mind of Snow White’s seven dwarves. It’s a sparkling anti-fairytale exploring the necessity to preserve irregular ways of speaking and the right to speak in your own way.
