Frosty Mornings, Fairy Lights & Flicks: Cromarty’s Cinematic December

As the year winds down and Cromarty sparkles with fairy lights and frosty mornings, we’re bringing you a December full of cinematic treats. Whether you’re escaping the cold or getting into the Christmas spirit, there’s no better place to do it than your local cinema.
We’re also celebrating the season with something a little special… you might have already noticed that new Cromarty Cinema merch is here! Whether you’re shopping for a film-loving friend or treating yourself, our new t-shirts, caps, beanies and stickers are stylish, practical, and help support your local, volunteer-run cinema. Pop in to browse before the screenings or ask at the human box office on Thursdays 12-2PM.
We kick December off with Springsteen’s darkest creative chapter in Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere. The film dives deep into the making of the album Nebraska, exploring how Bruce Springsteen wrestled with inner turmoil, identity and artistry. Blue Moon is a moving 2025 biographical drama from Richard Linklater, chronicling the twilight of lyricist Lorenz Hart as he confronts professional decline and personal heartbreak on the night of a major Broadway debut. Festival favourite Die My Love delivers a visceral, feverish portrait of motherhood, mental illness and desire – starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson.
Wim Wenders’ Wings of Desire returns to the big screen in all its poetic, monochrome glory – a film of angels, Berlin, and longing. Fans of mystery are in for a treat with Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery – Daniel Craig returns as the inimitable Benoit Blanc in this eagerly awaited next chapter of murder, twist and mayhem. Also in the thriller camp is Relay, starring Riz Ahmed as a professional fixer who finds his carefully controlled world unravelling across a single tense day.
From Japan, we’ll screen Akira Kurosawa’s Throne of Blood – a stormy, samurai – screen Dead of Winter, a gripping thriller starring Emma Thompson, which traps a grief stricken woman in a remote cabin during a blizzard. We’re also proud to present Nuremberg, a haunting and powerful courtroom drama that revisits the trials which attempted to bring justice after the atrocities of World War II, and Blast of Silence, a noir Christmas-set cult classic with a hard edge and dark heart.
No December would be complete without a few Christmas essentials. Join us for Muppet Christmas Carol – joyful, musical, and reliably hilarious – and It’s a Wonderful Life, the timeless story of one man’s impact on his community and the true meaning of a life well lived. We do sell tissues!
Wicked: For Good offers a fresh take on the beloved musical’s world of friendship, magic and moral ambiguity — perfect for fans of Elphaba, Glinda and the land of Oz.
See you at the Cinema!
