After Wang Wei’s daughter is kidnapped by a criminal network and he receives no help from the corrupt police, Wei sets out to find her himself. His only ally is Navin, a relentless journalist whose wife has mysteriously disappeared. Fueled by a furious vengeance, the unlikely duo ruthlessly battle the kidnappers in this explosive martial arts showdown.
When the highs are this high, you’d be mad to focus on what comes between them. This is the action movie of the year so far as American theatergoers should be concerned, and nothing else really comes close.
The Furious is such a feat of mass physical coordination that such niceties as character and narrative can afford to be an afterthought. Here’s a film where you come for the fighting and stay for the fighting, and are unlikely to feel shortchanged.
One of the best fight movies of the 21st century. It’s a spectacular, run-and-gun, beat ‘em up, martial arts extravaganza.
