Autumn Nights, Epic Sights: Sharks, Synths and Sisters at Cromarty Cinema

As the Autumn evenings begin to draw in, September at Cromarty Cinema is bursting with blockbusters, classics, bold experiments and rare gems.

We open the month with a return to the water — Steven Spielberg’s Jaws, the original summer blockbuster that still has the power to keep you out of the sea. From sharks to superheroes, Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces a new generation to one of the most iconic teams in comic-book history.

There’s more spectacle with Battleship Potemkin, Sergei Eisenstein’s revolutionary silent classic, presented in a very special version accompanied by the Pet Shop Boys’ propulsive score.

On the new-release front, Friendship is a cringe-comedy powder keg as a suburban dad’s quest for a best mate spirals hilariously (and disastrously) out of control. Can’t Look Away: The Case Against Social Media dives into the legal fight to hold tech to account for harms to young users — urgent, clear-eyed, and compelling. Savages brings hand-crafted wonder and environmental heart as two kids (and a baby orangutan) navigate a threatened Bornean rainforest. This little gem is from the same creative team that bought you My Life as a Courgette.

For those who love cinematic scale, Kurosawa’s masterpiece Ran returns in all its colourful chaos. In the documentary Women & the Wind, three women sail the Atlantic in a lyrical testament to grit and freedom. In need of laughter? Leslie Nielsen is back in the riotous spoof The Naked Gun, a perfect antidote to weightier fare.

We round out the month with a duo of bold voices: The Roses, Jay Roach’s sharp, darkly funny reimagining of The War of the Roses starring Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch, and Little Trouble Girls, a sensuous, coming-of-age drama set around a Catholic girls’ choir.

To close the month, we step into darker territory: Radiohead X Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror— the legendary silent vampire film, reimagined with Radiohead’s haunting music. A perfect way to end September nights in Cromarty.

Book now – tickets are available on this very website, the human box office on Thursdays 12-2, or at the door 30minutes before the screening begins (don’t be late, remember we don’t have 30 minutes of adverts).

And finally, we have a gorgeous new logo and to go with it – some epic merch! So why not pop in for a t-shirt, a beanie, cap or some stickers to publicly declare your love for your community cinema.

See you at the cinema!
