Burned-out ex-baseball player Hank Thompson unexpectedly finds himself embroiled in a dangerous struggle for survival amidst the criminal underbelly of 1990s New York City, forced to navigate a treacherous underworld he never imagined.
Funny, weird and demented are much more interesting keys to play, and Mr. Aronofsky does so with gusto in a movie that sprawls, rambles and roars.
Caught Stealing is a very enjoyable spectacle. At one stage, Hank hits a few balls and instantly a crowd of people gather round, awed — and an old-timer tells him he has “one hell of a swing”. The film has it too.
