‘Alien’ is a science fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott starring Tom Skerrit, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm and Yaphet Kotto.
The first in the ‘Alien’ franchise focuses on a highly aggressive extraterrestrial creature which boards a haulage spacecraft, where it begins stalking and killing its crew. ‘Alien’ has attracted huge critical acclaim and box office success, receiving multiple awards.
In 2002 it was added into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress for its cultural, historical and aesthetic significance.
This gorgeous, leisurely horror film expresses a spectacularly British xenophobia, a parenthetical nightmare of invasion envisioned between an awakening (at the start of the film) and a return to sleep (at its close).
An old-fashioned scary movie set in a highly realistic sci-fi future, made all the more believable by expert technical craftmanship.
